RICHARD M. CARO, JR
Rick Caro is the President of Management Vision, Inc., a leading consulting firm specializing in the club industry. Management Vision, Inc. provides management expertise to clubs, real estate developers, hospitals, hotels, resorts, appraisers and to the courts as an expert witness. Management Vision is widely regarded for its feasibility studies, business plans, loan proposals, valuation of the worth of clubs, assistance in the buying and selling of clubs, operational analyses of existing clubs and financial acumen. Management Vision has experience with small-and large-sized clubs, single-activity and multi-sport facilities, suburban and urban sites, owned and leasehold properties and start-up and take-over business situations all over the U.S. and other countries. Mr. Caro also founded Club Market Vision, Inc., a sister company, to provide strategic and marketing consulting, industry and club member research assistance.
Rick Caro was the previous Chairman of the Spectrum Clubs, Inc., a leading club ownership company with plans to consolidate the industry. After only six months, it became the 10th largest company in the U.S. with over $60 million in revenue and two major club clusters in Texas and California.
Rick Caro is a 36-year veteran of the club industry. Previously, he was the owner of an eight-club organization of multi-sport clubs in the northeast U.S. which he successfully sold in 1983. Over the last six years, he has consulted to over 1,500 clubs. Mr. Caro was the founder, past president and director of IHRSA (International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association), the trade association of over 8,500 clubs in over 70 countries. He is a frequent writer for various trade publications and the author of the book, Financial Management, targeted for the club industry. He is also a well-known lecturer for the industry.
Mr. Caro was voted Person of the Year, Distinguished Service Award recipient, one of the club industry’s VIP’s and one of the key leaders for the 1990’s.
He received an MBA degree with Distinction from New York University and served as its assistant dean and faculty member at the age of 23. He worked as a researcher for an advertising agency and as a management expert to correct major problems at a New York City government agency. Mr. Caro has been actively involved in voluntary and charitable organizations over 30 years and served as a trustee of the Urban Business Assistance Corporation, a non-profit organization providing technical assistance to minority businesses in New York City. He also served on the Board of the New York City Sports Commission and Sports Development Authority. He has served as the secretary-treasurer of ACE (American Council on Exercise) and of Operation FitKids.
Randal Godden is currently the CEO and a chairman of TEC South Africa and also operates as a strategic-management consultant in South Africa and internationally. He has the unusual combination of line-management experience as Chief Executive and Finance Executive plus strategic consulting and mentoring to clients in a broad range of industries.
Randal has a business career spanning more than 40 years, which began immediately after matriculation, as his University education was undertaken and completed at night. His career began in Finance and included chief financial officer positions in a variety of companies and industries. Realizing the importance of people management in business, he actively pursued the transition to general management.
He joined O’Brien Glass, the Australian subsidiary of Plate Glass as finance director in 1975. O’Brien Glass was a vertically integrated business involving manufacture, distribution, contracting, retail and retail services through a national network of owned branches. Two years later he was appointed CEO, a position he held for fifteen years. The company grew dramatically and, under his guidance, made the transition from manufacturing / distribution to the market leader of glass in Australia. He was also a member of the Plate Glass International management team.
In 1992, Randal accepted a partnership with Faust Management in San Diego, which provides strategic-management consulting to a broad range of industries in the USA and internationally. Consulting services include business diagnosis, strategic planning, organizational design and restructure, change management, team facilitation, operational planning and executive coaching for CEOs. He was also heavily involved in the Executive Insight diagnostic suite of products, including management of their licensee network.
In 1995, he migrated to South Africa and established his own strategic-consulting organization as well as undertaking international assignments for Faust Management. TEC South Africa was launched in May 1997, and the CEO roundtable business will gain significantly from Randal’s familiarity with the TEC concept. He was a TEC member in Australia and has undertaken every facet of the TEC process, including executive roundtable facilitation, educational resource and consultant to TEC member organizations.
Randal is married to a South African, Elsa Krüger, and his outside interests include social activities with family and friends, golf, swimming, wine and music.
